- PL4 - Final Approval of Attendance Boundary Change - Jupiter High
School
Motions:
I recommend that the School Board provide final
approval for Advisory Boundary Committee’s recommendation of
Boundary Study Jup-1, modifying attendance boundaries of Jupiter
and Wm. T. Dwyer high schools. |

Minutes: This recommendation provides enrollment relief
for Jupiter High School and is a positive effort toward optimal
utilization at both Jupiter and WT Dwyer high schools. Board
Members were in consensus for Mr. Greto represent the Board during
during the mediation with The Town of Jupiter with Mr. Kanjian as
the alternate. Boundary Study JUP-1 proposes shifting SACs 028,
031 and 036 from Jupiter High School to WT Dwyer High School. SAC
028 is the northwest section of Abacoa. SAC 031 and 036 are the
Bluffs area of Jupiter. A Community Input Meeting was held on
October 17, 2006 at Jupiter High School. Notification was provided
to parents of students potentially affected by the changes, as
well as principals of schools included in the studies and the Town
of Jupiter. Additional public input was gathered at scheduled ABC
meeting and through faxes, letters and e-mails. Copies of boundary
change correspondences are available for review in the Board
Minutes Office. Twenty-eight people spoke at the Community Input
Meeting and eleven people provided written comments. All but two
or three were against the proposed changes. The major points made
in opposition included impact on property values; parental
cheating/address validation siblings and current students moving;
not being able to attend a ‘Town’ high school and previous
boundary changes. Town of Jupiter Vice-Mayor Kuretski presented a
letter in opposition to the proposed changes. He read the letter
into the record. On October 17, 2006 the ABC voted 8 to 2 to
recommend Study JUP-1 to the Superintendent with a recommendation
to phase-in changes beginning with incoming ninth grade students,
as long as it falls within the standards of concurrency. Al
Williams and Carmen Campbell were opposed. Board Members were in
consensus for Mr. Graham to represent the Board in the mediation
between the School District and the Town of Jupiter and agreed Mr.
Kanjian will be his alternate. |
